Local MPs Ben Everitt and Iain Stewart have met with Health Minister Lord Markham to discuss the ongoing plans for a brand new Women and Children's Hospital for Milton Keynes.
The Conservative Government has confirmed the planned hospital for the city will go ahead and be built before 2030, but Ben and Iain are keen to get work underway as soon as possible.
Ben has been campaigning for the new hospital since he was elected back in December 2019 and was delighted when the funding for the hospital was formally allocated and its place in the building programme was secured in May.
The build is part of the Government’s New Hospital Programme and as part of the scheme Milton Keynes Hospital will also receive funding for a surgical ward block and imaging centre.
Ben has spent a significant amount of time lobbying Health Ministers and the Treasury, as well as working closely with Milton Keynes University Hospital CEO Joe Harrison and the wider hospital team to get the project underway.
The new Women and Children's Hospital will be on top of significant Conservative Government funding into healthcare in Milton Keynes following £10 million worth of funding for the brand new Maple Centre at MK Hospital and the opening of two new Community Diagnostic Centres in Whitehouse and CMK, plus many other projects.
Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, said: "The new Women and Children's Hospital may now be confirmed to be going ahead but I'm not going to stop fighting to get a spade in the ground as soon as possible.
"I'm so passionate about delivering the healthcare the people of Milton Keynes deserve and while we've had an incredible amount of success with the Community Diagnostic Centres, Maple Centre, mobile breast cancer screening unit and other funding we can't stop there. I will keep fighting for you."
