Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, has backed a plan from the Conservative Government to hold the Labour-led council to account on fixing potholes in Milton Keynes.
Ben and local Conservative councillors have been dealing with high volumes of correspondence relating to the state of roads across the city and rural areas in recent months despite £8.3 million of Government funding this year for road maintenance.
The local MP has also secured a £25 million increase in road maintenance funding for Milton Keynes City Council over the next decade.
With reports of potholes causing damage to cars in MK, Ben has welcomed the Government setting out a plan to make sure the council is using the money effectively.
Under the Government’s plan, Milton Keynes City Council will have to set out how they plan to use the new funding on their website for residents to see, and then publish quarterly reports listing the roads which have been resurfaced. They must also provide a long-term plan for the full 11-year funding and the transformation it will deliver.
Ben Everitt MP said: “We have secured so much funding for Milton Keynes City Council in recent years and it’s frustrating that the Labour administration doesn’t seem to put the residents of Milton Keynes first, so I’m delighted the Government is holding them accountable on road resurfacing.
“The Conservatives have rightfully given the council a long-term funding settlement so that they can plan for the future and I hope Labour will up their game and end the plague of potholes we’re seeing across the city.”
