Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, has hit out at plans by the Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan to scrap the London Day Travelcard which could cost Milton Keynes residents an extra £9.30 a day.
Many people living in Milton Keynes benefit from the Travelcard which allows unlimited travel on London's public transport, including bus, Tube, tram, DLR, London Overground, Elizabeth line and National Rail services in zones 1-6.
The move to scrap the Travelcard will not only affect people heading on a day out to London at the weekend, but could also cost commuters from Milton Keynes £46.50 extra a week, or over £180 extra a month if they travel to London every week day for work.
Ben Everitt MP said: "At a time when this Conservative Government is delivering compassionate support for families in Milton Keynes struggling with the global cost of living crisis including direct payments totally £900 it is shocking to see Labour planning to add such unnecessary costs to families.
"I know so many of my constituents currently benefit from the Travelcard on trips to London and it would be terrible for the Labour Mayor to scrap it now and take the hard earned money out of your pockets."
