Milton Keynes North MP Ben Everitt visited the Foreign Office’s Hanslope Park site last week, to meet with apprentices from FCDO Services, the UK government’s leading provider of secure services.
Ben, who was also joined by Mayor of Milton Keynes Mohammed Khan, saw at first hand the work being produced by apprentices to design and build unique products which protect the national security of the UK at home and abroad.
The visit also included a briefing by the UK National Technical Authority on Counter-Eavesdropping (UK NACE), including a demonstration of technical security measures.
FCDO Services is a government organisation, part of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, which provides services to UK and overseas government agencies. Work includes construction, digital solutions, logistics, counter-eavesdropping, translation, and more, all delivered with the highest levels of security.
At the Hanslope Park site, which is just outside Milton Keynes, the guests were given a guided tour of the digital and innovation workshops, provided with an overview of production history and given a tour of the wood, metal and technical workshop, seeing some of the state of the art engineering which FCDO Services specialises in.
The MP and Mayor also got to meet some of the apprentices working towards their qualifications, and some who joined FCDO Services and UK NACE as apprentices and now run operations and departments.
Ben Everitt MP, the MP for Milton Keynes North, commented: “It’s fantastic that Milton Keynes has such a wealth of technical and engineering expertise on its doorstep. I’m delighted to see so many opportunities for young people here in the city, and seeing how they contribute to incredible organisations like FCDO Services or UK NACE is so exciting to see.”
Mike Astell, Chief Executive Officer for FCDO Services said: "I’m pleased the MP and Mayor got to experience a little of the incredible work our teams at FCDO Services and UK NACE do here and around the world. Our apprentices are at the beginning of their careers, but are already delivering vital products and services which keep the UK safe.”
FCDO Services has actually now launched its new apprenticeship schemes for 2022 and you can find out more here: https://www.fcdoservices.gov.uk/apprenticeship-opportunities-2022/
