Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, has met with Milton Keynes Theatre to discuss their work within the community, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Government's Kickstart Scheme.
Ben was given a backstage tour of the Theatre and enjoyed a moment on stage which was the set of Heathers The Musical before sitting down for a discussion with Theatre Director Emma Sullivan and Alexandra Snell, the Senior Creative Learning Manager.
He was delighted to hear how the Government's Furlough Scheme had supported the Theatre throughout the pandemic and how the Theatre were taking on two people from the Kickstart Scheme aimed at getting more young people on Universal Credit into work.
The local MP was also told about the work the Theatre are currently doing to engage with local communities, including schools, and how much of an impact the pandemic and lockdowns have had on children and their engagement with the arts which is so vital during our early years.
Ben Everitt MP said: "I was delighted to meet with Emma and Alex and discuss the brilliant work MK Theatre is doing locally, and how they've adapted throughout the pandemic to make sure theatre goers feel as safe as possible.
"I understand how tough it's been for the arts sector throughout COVID and I'm really pleased they are bouncing back strongly and so dedicated to supporting our local communities and making sure our Theatre is a hub for the people of Milton Keynes."
