Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, is continuing to fight for better bus services for the city after the Government announced extra funding.
Milton Keynes will receive a further £654,193 from the Government to support bus services across Milton Keynes, on top of the extension to the £2 bus fare cap.
An extra £140 million nationally will directly support bus operators to protect essential services.
Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, said: “We are continuing to fight for the residents of Milton Keynes to get better bus services, while Labour continue to cut them.
“They allowed the number 41 bus service through Olney to be cut last year which affected so many of my constituents who used it to get to work, school or health appointments, we campaigned get that reinstated.
“Now they’ve got even more funding from the Government so from Olney to Fairfields, it’s time the council delivered a better bus service for our residents.”
Iain Stewart, the MP for Milton Keynes South, added: “Local buses are vital for people across Milton Keynes. They help people to access work, education, shops, and appointments – and keeping the cost of fares down will make a real difference to the people who use them every day.
“I am delighted the Conservative Government will be committing £500 million across the country, including £654,000 for Milton Keynes from the Bus Service Improvement Plan, extending the £2 cap fare and protecting and improving vital local routes.
“This will help people to keep costs down, as the Conservatives work to halve inflation, grow the economy, and reduce debt.”
