Milton Keynes North MP Ben Everitt has welcomed more Government investment into Milton Keynes University Hospital after it received a £4.8 million boost to improve energy efficiency across its estate.
The Conservative Government's Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme provides grants to public sector bodies to fund low carbon heating, renewable energy and energy efficiency measures such as heat pumps, solar panels and insulation. The scheme is being delivered on behalf of the government by Salix Finance.
The hospital will receive more than £4.8 million after its bid was successful and the extra funding will be used to improve the comfort of the patient and staff environment across the hospital as it moves to a net carbon-zero heating system.
Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, said: "I am of course absolutely delighted that Milton Keynes University Hospital's bid for £4.8 million funding to help improve energy efficiency has been successful as we continue to move towards a green future.
"I'm extremely proud of the wonderful work the team at MKUH do and this success has been demonstrated by the Government's confidence in continuing to provide investment into the hospital whether that's been for the Maple Centre, the mobile breast cancer screening unit or many of the other fantastic projects currently ongoing.
"It's brilliant to see the hospital is putting the comfort of patients and staff at the heart of their work and I'm glad this funding will continue to support that.
Salix Director of Programmes Ian Rodger said: “We are looking forward to embarking on the decarbonisation journey with Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH).
“This project will not only have a significant impact on Milton Keynes University Hospital’s carbon emissions, but will also help improve the comfort and environment for both patients and staff. Congratulations to the hospital on its successful bid and we look forward to a greener future.”
