Local Conservative MP Ben Everitt has urged Milton Keynes City Council to delay roadworks which could impact on Ousedale School students' exam period.
Willen Road is set to be closed at the junction of Marsh End Roundabout from 28th May until 1st June and while this will be overnight, with a 6am finish time, a number of residents have been in touch with Ben concerned the works could run over and impact school drop-off hours.
Ben is determined to ensure that no additional stress or anxiety is placed on Ousedale School students around traffic and delays during what will be a busy time for GCSE and A-Level exams.
Newport Pagnell residents have put up with years of disruptive roadworks as part of the Labour-led council's MK East development plans and Ben has been standing up for residents throughout.
Last year, his petition against Labour's closure of the A509 received more than 1,500 signatures, and while the council ploughed on with the closure they did commit to 12 months rather than the initially announced 18 months. Since this closure Ben has met with local Newport Pagnell businesses who say their income has been impacted by the closure.
He has also worked closely with local Conservative councillors to keep the pressure up on MK Council's Highways department.
In 2022, he also raised concerns with the council about a number of roads around Newport Pagnell and Moulsoe being closed at the same time which caused traffic chaos for residents.
Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, said: "I am concerned Newport Pagnell is once again going to be facing significant disruption as part of the Labour-led council's MK East development plans.
"While I appreciate the closure is proposed to be overnight, there is a risk these works could overrun into school drop-off times so I'm asking the council to push these works back by a little bit to avoid adding any extra stress to Ousedale students during exam periods.
"I've always campaigned for infrastructure before expansion and unfortunately the Labour council just hasn't listened. They allowed the A509 to be closed before the new road was built. That is not infrastructure before expansion."
