Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, paid a visit to the local Nationwide branch in Olney to hear more about their support for elderly people in the constituency and work with the local community.
There are 51,587 Nationwide members living across Ben's constituency so this was an important opportunity for Ben to listen to the work they are doing across Milton Keynes.
They also discussed Nationwide’s Money Lessons programme which is targeted at students in mainstream and SEN schools across the country. So far, they have worked with 325 schools across the UK, helping over 35,000 students. It delivers sessions on a wide range of topics including savings, budgeting and online safety.
Since its launch in August 2022, Nationwide’s Cost of Living Helpline has helped over 3066 members with money worries. The service is available from 9am-4:30pm weekdays and 9am-12pm Saturdays. From September, all frontline colleagues have received training to provide additional cost-of-living help for members, whether in branch or on the telephone, and from October Nationwide’s cost-of-living experts have been offering face-to-face, telephone and video appointments. Virtual and in-branch events have also been held for members since autumn. These provide practical help with managing money and avoiding financial pitfalls.
Another important discussion was the issue of scams, which can be especially concerning for elderly people across Olney and Milton Keynes and Nationwide offers its members a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week hotline (on 08000304057) as well as in branch support as part of their Scam Checker Service. Members can call or come into their local branch before making a payment if they are concerned.
