Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, has welcomed the news the Conservative Government provided Milton Keynes City Council with more than £14.6 million last year to support local businesses struggling with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Milton Keynes was allocated £8,996,731 through the COVID-19 Additional Relief Fund (CARF), with applications opening in January 2022, and £5,684,087 as part of the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Relief Fund 2022/23.
As of the latest Government data provided, MK City Council had spent 14% of their allocated funds from the CARF up to September 2022, with £1.2 million supporting 310 businesses.
The allocated funds included support for offices, warehousing, storage and distribution centres, factories and industrial, car parks and medical facilities.
Ben Everitt MP said: "I've met so many businesses across Milton Keynes over the last few years so understand just how tough COVID was for them, and how the aftermath of that, including the global increase in the cost of living, is impacting them so I welcome the news more than £14.6 million has been provided to Milton Keynes City Council.
"We spent so much money during the pandemic keeping people in jobs and businesses afloat with the Furlough scheme, Bounce Back Loans, business rates relief and so much more and we can't afford to let that go to waste now. I want to see our fantastic businesses continue to thrive."
