Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, has welcomed another Government boost in funding to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping across Milton Keynes.
Since 2019, the MPs have secured more than £20 million in investment from the Conservative Government aimed at preventing homelessness and getting people off the streets.
This includes £3,373,905 specifically to Milton Keynes through the Rough Sleeping Initiative 2022-25, which was then topped up with an extra £450,000 by the Government in September, with another boost of more than £112,000 on the way.
The number of rough sleepers in Milton Keynes remained under 10 from 2010-2014, but when Labour took control of the council in 2014 rough sleeping skyrocketed with almost 50 people on the streets at one count in 2017, leading MK to be dubbed 'tent city'.
Both MPs have been committed to ending homelessness and rough sleeping and have worked hard in Westminster to secure more funding for Milton Keynes, and have celebrated the work local charities do across the city tackling such an important issue.
This latest boost of more than £112,000 through the Move On and Prevention uplift is to provide critical support to address pressures this winter, enhance existing services, and create more opportunities to encourage people who are sleeping rough repeatedly or long term to accept offers of support.
Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, said: "Homelessness and rough sleeping is an issue really close to my heart and I'm delighted we've been able to secure even more funding from the Conservative Government to help tackle this issue in Milton Keynes.
"With more than £20 million invested into prevention and support since 2019 we've been able to make a real difference, but there's still lots to do.
"I also want to take this opportunity to thank the incredible charities we have across Milton Keynes including the inspirational YMCA who I visited on Friday to see the work they are doing to help young people rebuild their lives."
