Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, has welcomed the news the Conservative Government has provided Milton Keynes City Council with £321,034 worth of funding to tackle homelessness across the city.
The additional funding from the Government's Homelessness Prevention Grant - Winter 2022 will allow local authorities to target support to those who need it most to help prevent rough sleeping and homelessness.
The Government has provided significant and decisive support to support people through the global increase in the cost of living including through the Energy Price Guarantee which will help households with their energy bills over the winter, and a further £37 billion of support for the cost of living this year.
At the Autumn Statement last month the Chancellor also unveiled £26 billion of support to protect the most vulnerable households in 2023/24. We recognise that some vulnerable households may find themselves at risk of homelessness and may need additional support.
This additional £50 million of investment in homelessness prevention builds on the £316 million in funding already available to local authorities through the Homelessness Prevention Grant for 2022/23, bringing total spend through that grant to £366 million. This is part of £2 billion of Government funding to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping over the next three years.
Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, said: "This Conservative Government is absolutely committed to tackling homelessness and rough sleeping across Milton Keynes and that has been shown by the millions of pounds in funding that has been allocated to the city in recent years.
"I'm well aware of the huge impact the global increase in the cost of living is having on residents in Milton Keynes and this extra £321,034 will allow the council to support those who need it most, and of course comes on top of the significant funding the Government has provided such as the Energy Price Guarantee and the £650 grants for those on means-tested benefits."
