Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, is launching a campaign to protect the city’s rural areas from Labour’s plans which could see a new town of 12,000 built near local villages.
As part of the Labour-led council’s New City Plan they are planning to build 63,000 new homes across Milton Keynes, including a proposal which would see the villages of Castlethorpe, Hanslope and Haversham swamped by a new settlement.
Under the New City Plan, the market town of Olney could also see an extra 1,100 homes built, while an extra 1,000 are proposed on Chicheley Hill near Newport Pagnell.
This ‘new settlement’ as the New City Plan describes it follows reports in national media that Labour leader Keir Starmers plans to build a new town on the ‘M1 corridor near Milton Keynes’.
Local Conservative MP Ben Everitt will be holding a series of public meetings in the rural areas over the next few weeks to offer support to concerned members of the public.
He said: “You only have to look at the shambolic handling of Labour’s MK East development with all the traffic chaos caused in Newport Pagnell to know the Labour council should be nowhere near plans like these.
“Our villages are a vital part of the heritage and history of Milton Keynes and swamping them with a huge new town of around 12,000 houses is simply unacceptable.
“I will do everything in my power to fight for the people of Milton Keynes North and our beautiful villages to protect them against Milton Keynes Labour and Keir Starmer’s reckless plans.”
