DWP Minister Mims Davies was in Milton Keynes on Thursday (11th May) to meet with ABB Robotics at their new facility in Kingston, with local MP Ben Everitt.
As well as a tour of the hub there were discussions around the importance of the manufacturing sector as a driver for UK economic growth and ABB's work with MK:U on the robotics degree apprenticeship.
There were also conversations around having a diverse workforce and supporting under-represented groups into the workforce, as well as looking around their state-of-the-art Robotics and eMobility infrastructure training school.
ABB are doing exciting work with robotics and automation, and the Minister and Ben were both given the chance to try their hand at programming a robot.
Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, said: "You will have heard me bang on time and time again about how I'm ambitious to make Milton Keynes the Silicon Valley of Europe and to achieve that it's vital we have businesses like ABB call MK their home.
"It's super exciting to hear about their work with MK:U on the robotics degree apprenticeship and their commitment to ensuring robotics and innovation is at the heart of our economy."
