Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, has welcomed the news the Government is funding 5G technology trials in Milton Keynes at MK Dons.
The Department of Culture, Media and Sport has provided £2,397,243 to MK Council as part of a project worth in excess of £4 million to test how 5G can improve visitor experiences and boost efficiency at major venues.
The trials will include using driverless shuttles and road vehicles for moving people and goods across the site, autonomous surveillance vehicles and drones for enhancing security, and testing out drones and robots for goods delivery and hospitality use.
Ben commented, "This is brilliant news and it's really no surprise Milton Keynes has been selected for this technology funding, and I'm delighted the Government is investing in our city's potential.
"I've been banging the drum for MK to become the Silicon Valley of Europe since I was elected and it's incredibly exciting to have this trial on our doorstep which will use all the fantastic innovative technology we've come used to seeing on the streets of MK from driverless pods to the delivery robots.
"These trials could revolutionise how events and venues operate in the future and I'm looking forward to seeing how it progresses.
