More than £10 million worth of funding from the Conservative Government has supported Milton Keynes become the electric vehicles capital of the UK, figures have revealed.
Milton Keynes' has 123 rapid electric vehicle charging points which means our rate currently stands at 45.5 per 100k population which is higher than anywhere else in the UK.
When you add in regular electric car charging points Milton Keynes has 372 which works out as 137.7 per 100,000 population which is higher than any place in England outside of some London council areas.
This is thanks to vital Government funding including £9,797,400 through the Go Ultra Low City Schemes (GULCS). This funding supported the delivery of public chargepoints and to help establish the Electric Vehicle Experience Centre which provides advice to the public considering making the switch to electric driving.
Since 2015 Milton Keynes Council has also received £865,690 under the On Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS).
Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, commented: "With COP26 just around the corner this Conservative Government is determined to invest in green technology as we aim to be Net Zero by 2050 and I'm delighted Milton Keynes is the UK's hub for electric vehicles.
"MK has shown time and time again that we thrive when it comes to innovation and new technology - whether that's the e-scooter trials, our delivery robots or electric cars."
