The Conservative Government provided Milton Keynes Council with £865,960 over the last year to install public electric vehicle charging points.
Recently Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, visited BP Pulse in his constituency to see the production process of chargers and is delighted the Government is continuing to invest in turning MK green.
The funding was part of the Government's On-Street Residential Scheme which gives local authorities access to grant funding that can be used to part-fund the procurement and installation of on-street EV chargepoint infrastructure for residential needs.
As of January 2022, Milton Keynes had also benefited from £66,606 worth of funding as part of the Workplace Charging Scheme, a voucher-based scheme that provides support towards the up-front costs of the purchase and installation of electric vehicle charge-points, for eligible businesses, charities and public sector organisations. That scheme has seen 165 sockets installed in Milton Keynes.
Since 2014/15, the Government has also funded £773,253 from Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme which gives eligible electric vehicle (EV) owners grants of up to £350 towards the cost of having a home charger installed and has seen 1,615 installed thanks to the scheme.
Other Government investment into environmentally friendly vehicles in Milton Keynes includes £9,797,400 through the Go Ultra Low City Schemes (GULCS) which helped establish the Electric Vehicle Experience Centre in the centre:mk.
It's not just cars where MK has benefited from Government funding for green transport - after Ben Everitt MP and Iain Stewart MP wrote to the Department for Transport urging them to provide funding for electric buses in the city as part of the ZEBRA initiative (Zero Emission Bus Regional Assessment), MK was awarded funding for approximately 56 zero carbon buses.
Ben Everitt MP commented: "I'm delighted the Conservative Government is investing so much money into ensuring Milton Keynes is an environmentally friendly city with electric charging points readily available for anybody who needs one."
