Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, has shared his delight after the Conservative Government awarded Lavendon £150,000 as part of the Frequently Flooded Allowance scheme.
The fund targets communities where 10 or more properties have flooded twice or more in the last 10 years. These communities are often smaller and can face barriers to access funding due to the relative complexity and cost of building flood defences compared to the size of the community.
And local MP Ben, who has lobbied the Government to help protect our rural areas from flooding, is pleased the Lavendon Flood Alleviation Scheme has been allocated £150,000.
In a letter to Ben, Environment Minister Rebecca Pow said: "This is a very positive step forward for those in your constituency that have been negatively impacted by flooding in the past and shows our commitment to ensure that communities that experience repeated flooding are supported to reduce their flood risk in the future."
Ben Everitt MP commented: "This is fantastic news for residents of Lavendon. I know the devastating impact flooding has on people's lives so this extra funding can go a long way to helping protect Lavendon from flooding in the future.
"I bang on about the risk of flooding in rural areas in Parliament and have been consistent with raising concerns of the impact huge housing developments on the outskirts of Milton Keynes could have on increasing floods in rural villages."
