Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, has welcomed an £802,890 funding boost for the National Tutoring Programme in Milton Keynes which supports pupils most in need of extra support.
The National Tutoring Programme was launched in 2020 as part of the Government's COVID-19 recovery plan to help children catch-up, narrow the attainment gap and improve outcomes for disadvantaged children.
It supports schools in England by providing eligible pupils with access to one-to-one and small group tuition. Tutoring is free to pupils and parents and is organised by schools based on a pupil’s individual needs. Tutoring is subject specific and linked to the school curriculum.
Over three million tutoring courses have now been started since its launch, with close to 90% of schools participating in academic year 2021/22. The fourth round of the programme will launch in September 2023 and Milton Keynes has received £802,890 for the next year of the scheme.
By its conclusion, the Government will have invested more than £1 billion in tutoring, supporting pupils most in need across England.
Ben Everitt MP said: "I'm delighted the Government has announced plans for another year of the National Tutoring Programme which has seen so much success since its launch in 2020.
"I know from my regular visits to schools across Milton Keynes to meet with teachers and have Q&As with students that the pandemic has had a huge impact on their learning so this scheme is vital in helping young people get the best education possible."
