Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, visited Milton Keynes Central Library on Friday (15th September) to take in both the 'PeaceHopeUkraine' and the Afghanistan refugees exhibitions on display.
First, Ben met with some of the Afghan refugees and the volunteers who worked so hard to help them feel welcome when they were housed in a hotel in Newport Pagnell. He heard about their experiences of the UK so far and some of the issues they have faced, but how all of them were so grateful for the work the volunteers had done for them.
He then headed to the 'PeaceHopeUkraine' exhibition which features artwork from both local artists and Ukrainian war refugee artists. He met with Viktoriya, from the Ukraine Appeal, and Tatiana, from the The Chernobyl Relief Foundation in the UK, about some of the striking artwork on display including the memorial for the 'Hero Of Ukraine'.
Ben Everitt MP said: "Our communities have shown how they come together to support those most in need by welcoming Ukrainian and Afghan war refugees over the last few years and it was inspiring to see some of the artwork on display at Milton Keynes library.
"From speaking to some of the Afghan refugees it was clear to see what an incredible impact the kindness of local volunteers had on their experience in the UK so far."
