Milton Keynes MPs Ben Everitt and Iain Stewart have written to the council encouraging them to apply for funding to support local swimming pool's through the Conservative Government's £60 million Swimming Pool Support Fund.
The investment from the Government will help safeguard the future of swimming pools across England and make them more financially sustainable to ensure children and adults continue to have access to their local public swimming pool, allowing them to be active and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Phase II of the fund is open for applications from local authorities, such as Milton Keynes City Council, and will provide funding to invest in energy efficiency measures for pools and leisure centres. This includes helping to reduce future operating costs and making facilities more sustainable in the long-term.
Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, said: "Swimming is not only good for our physical health but it can also provide a big boost to our mental health too so I hope Milton Keynes Council will listen to us and bid for funding from the Conservative Government to help keep local swimming pools, such as the ones in Newport Pagnell, Stantonbury and Wolverton, open."
