Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, has held public meetings in Hanslope and Haversham to talk about the importance of MK's rural areas after Labour set out plans to expand the city by an extra 63,000 homes by 2050.
The New City Plan is being developed by the Labour-Liberal Democrat controlled Milton Keynes City Council and the initial list of growth options includes the potential for a 'new settlement' in the rural areas near Hanslope, Haversham and Castlethorpe.
Local MP Ben has been keen to engage with local communities, who are concerned about the potential of such significant development in their villages, ahead of the draft plan being published in June to prepare a strong response in case the 'new settlement' plan is included.
It follows Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer talking about his determination to build new towns if he became Prime Minister with one of the locations reported to be 'on the M1 corridor near Milton Keynes' which would fit the proposed location of the 'new settlement'.
Ben Everitt, the MP for Milton Keynes North, said: "We've seen it before and now we're seeing it again where this Labour-led council propped up by the Lib Dems is pursuing the reckless over-expansion of Milton Keynes which risks completely destroying our rural areas and farmland.
"I want to thank everybody who came out to the two public meetings we've held so far in Haversham and Hanslope and our Conservative city councillors in the Newport Pagnell North & Hanslope and Olney wards for their continued work protecting our rural areas."
